Rogers 82 Aegir halfway at Goetz...

Industry News

In the USA Goetz Custom Technologies of Bristol, Rhode Island, is well progressed with the high-performance 25m (82ft) flush-deck sloop it is building. This Simon Rogers-drawn beauty is on track for a spring 2010 launch.

Eventually displacing just 30 tonnes, Aegir will combine blistering performance with a flexible four-cabin superyacht interior, not to mention a ‘silent-running’ capability.
Developed in association with SP Gurit, her construction is all prepreg carbon.
“The main challenge for the SP team was to meet the request for optimum structural performance and efficiency, while retaining a comfortable interior layout and cruising boat-type ergonomics,” says SP’s design engineer, Dr Paolo Manganelli, who was involved in the project from the start. “Where typically metal would be used for other racer/cruisers, a large number of components have been engineered and manufactured using carbonfibre-epoxy composites... Sprint fabrics were used for various components.”
Her composite structure is due for completion mid-summer ‘09.
