Night manoeuvres, Viareggio-style...

The world’s busiest yacht building town on the west coast of Italy is used to seeing big boats just about everywhere, but the rest of us still find fascination in what for the locals is commonplace - almost everyday, every night traffic.
MAY 2009
What you see here are Sanlorenzos. Recently it had two of its '40m Alloy' planing hull and superstructres moved from fabricators outside the town to its fit-out halls in the heart of the port. We think you'll agree the shots are wonderfully atmospheric, almost surreal.
Some of the narrow streets required some very careful driving. Clearances on buildings were extremely tight.
The lead shot shows one of them alongside the Burlamacca Canal, just in front of the 16th Century landmark monument, the Matilde Tower.
The others two pictures highlight just how close things became. In places just a few centimetres were between aluminium hull and domestic balconies.
Both these latest 40m Alloys deliver in 2010.
