Fabrication progress on second Picchiotti-Vitruvius...

Industry News

Turkish yard Yildiz recently turned another two bow sections of this 55m (180ft) explorer-style motoryacht.

APRIL 2009

Another two sections of the Picchiotti-Vitruvius 55m (180ft) were turned upright recently at the Yildiz Gemi yard in Tuzla, near Istanbul, Turkey.
The hull and superstructure are scheduled to complete there later this summer before moving to the Picchiotti yard in Viareggio for fit-out.
Check out the unique hull form. She will be Ice-Class rated when she delivers in 2011. The intention is for the vessel to voyage through Canada's Arctic Archipelago, what's known as the North West Passage, and to sail to Antarctica. Certainly she will have a long-range capability. She will be capable of trips in excess of 9,000nm thanks to tankage for 150,000 litres of fuel. She's a good looking vessel, as can be seen in the rendering shown here. She delivers for summer 2011.
The first Picchiotti-Vitruvius project, a similarly styled 50m (164ft) explorer motoryacht delivers for 2010.
Both designs are the work of Philippe Briand.
Picchiotti-Vitruvius is a collaboration between Vitruvius and Perini Navi, which owns the Picchiotti facility, as well as Cantieri Navali Beconcini in La Spezia and Yildiz in Turkey.
Beyond the 50m and 55m Picchiotti-Vitruvius projects, which have yard numbers C2134 and C2156 respectively, Perini Navi new-build work-in-progress includes two 45m (148ft) flybridge sloops (C2114 and C2146), four 56m (184ft) flybridge ketchs (2086, 2023, 2132 and 2126), and a 59m (194ft) flybridge ketch (C2150).
